Movies serve different purposes. Sometimes, films aim at opening up several episodes from the life history of famous historical personalities. The Young Victorian is one such film that has dealt with the life of Queen Victoria in her younger days. This film has taken great efforts in portraying the emotions and activities of Princess Victoria and has succeeded in weaving magic around this famous character.
The Young Victorian is no doubt a fine piece of historical film. But one of the unique features of this film is that it has concentrated more on the cheerful spirit of young princess rather than bulky grown up British queen. Emily Blunt in the role of Victoria has created a mesmerizing effect in this flick.
The Young Victorian has not missed the truth of Victoria’s childhood years. Elements of grandeur are there in the plot but it has never denied the importance of reality. The plot shows how young Victorian must establish her independent identity. But her dominating mother (played by Miranda Richardson) is an impediment to fulfill her desires. Apart from her mother, shrewd uncles and the prime minister (played by Paul Bettany) also act against her attaining self-independence.
The Prince Albert (played by Rupert Friend) has added some charms in the plot. The journey of Young Victoria towards the Prince is not smooth. This episode has taken the shape of a romantic drama though it has elements of truthfulness. The marriage between Victoria and Albert was no doubt a happy moment but Victoria had to suffer irreparable losses. After a period of 20 years happy married life she had to suffer widowhood for 40 years.

The Young Victorian has done a great job as the film concentrated more on personality and life of a towering character rather than on ideas. The cinematography is also quite remarkable here. The costumes and the environment of the scenes ensure the historical authenticity of this film. It has put focus on Victoria’s liberal ideas.
The contrasting elements in the plot have made the story more appealing. For example, the ravings of William IV and the fine touches of young Victoria is definitely a delicate point of The Young Victorian.
The Young Victorian has re-created the rich heritage of a royal age. But it has opened up the humane appeals of the royal characters. It has shown that in spite of living in great luxury a princess never forgot her responsibilities towards the society.
