The Lovely Bones 2010 is an adaptation of the famous novel having the same name written Alice Sebold. The book was a bestseller of 2002 and won several awards for its amazing storyline and concept. Since then filmmakers started to give a thought to Sebold’s story and finally the film was ready for screening by the end of 2009. Because the studio wanted the film to be released during the award season, thus it is slated to have a wide release on January 15th, 2010. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Stanley Tucci, Rachel Weisz, Mark Wahlberg and Susan Sarandon, Lovely Bones is a memorable venture of Dreamworks Pictures.
The plot of the film is very beautiful. The film begins with the family of the Salmons with focus on Susie. In the early seventy’s young Susie was a 14-year-old girl. She was cruelly raped and murdered by her middle-aged neighbor George Harvey. Young Susie could not pull herself out of the bindings of earth and after death she finds herself in a place in between Heaven and Earth. She keeps a track of what is happening in her family and how her death changed the life of her loved ones.
Susie also keeps a watch on her killer and sees that Harvey is successful in concealing all the evidences of her murder and getting prepared for his next prey. Susie’s parents didn’t get hold of her dead body as well except for a few severed body parts. The film delineates Susie’s journey to Heaven and her desire to have vengeance on Harvey and help her family to come out of the grief of her loss.
Peter Jackson has been very careful about every detailing of the film. Whether it is the story or the setting or the screenplay, Jackson tried maintaining originality everywhere. Actors who are involved with the film have given their best to make the film successful. The film has depicted the trauma of a family and a young girl who had to leave her precious life due to the carnal desires of a psychotic killer.
The film has already received nominations various film award committees of America. Tucci’s performance is highly acclaimed everywhere. Though the film has not been released for public viewings but the special screening sessions were very successful. Tucci has outdone every other actor in the movie. The film can be termed as a fantasy drama where Jackson has inserted human emotions in right quantity.
