Watch The Lion King, a 1994 Walt Disney Feature Animation. The movie tells the story of how Simba as a cub is fooled by his evil uncle Scar, into believing that he killed his father Mufasa, the Lion King. Greedy to rule the jungle, Scar persuades Simba to flee and go into hiding to avoid the shame and punishment that he would eventually incur. But now adult, Simba returns to protect the jungle and take back what belongs to him.
Directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, this musical animated movie is strongly influenced by William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet. The movie holds the highest records for grossing traditional, 2D animated film in history and belongs to the Disney Renaissance era. Not only did the movie get great reviews for the story line, the music as well received high amount of praise and applause. Wonderful, beautiful, a moving story, beautifully told makes it a must watch movie.
The Lion King takes place in a serene jungle paradise on the African plane, Pride Land, where every animal lives as a part of a harmonious ecosystem, ruled by the greatest, strongest and the wisest of all lions, King Mufasa. When Simba is born to Mufasa’s wife, all the hopes of Scar becoming the next king are crashed. The entire jungle is rejoicing while Scar is making wicked plans. Scar along with the wild hyenas of the jungle plans a stamped which results in Mufasa’s death. Too young to understand, Scar blames Simba for the death of the king and convinces him to flee to avoid any punishment. With the king and Simba, both gone from the jungle, Scar takes over the throne.
Fleeing to a far away land free of predators, Simba is raised by Timon and Pumba with a ‘hakunama-tata,’ ‘no-worries-in-life,’ idea of living. But when Simba’s childhood sweetheart Nula, finds Simba, she persuades him to return and take over Pride Land, which now under Scar is turned to a mere wasteland.
The Lion King is a cinematic masterpiece in any medium. If you feel animated movies is not your cup of tea or shy away saying they are meant for children, you would well like to make an exception here. Watch the movie, which is simply an extraordinary epic dazzling with chorography and music by Elton John. Kids would sure love watching this movie, but with deeply probing theme and breathtaking visuals, I am sure even the adults would give a 10 on 10 for the master work.
