Hollywood has produced many films to glorify the inner strength and iron determination of general public. The tense situations and survival stories in hostile atmospheres charm the audience with their rich appeal. The Canyon (2009) is a wonderful specimen of this category. Its charm and suspense plot has enabled the audience to get into the main theme quite easily. It has dealt with the survival story a newly wed couple.

The theme of The Canyon is quite thrilling. Nick (Eion Bailey) and Lori (Yvonne Strahovski), a newly married couple decides to spend their honeymoon in quite unique fashion. The great Grand Canyon becomes their venue to spend some quality time together. But they find it tough to find an experienced guide to lead them through the rugged terrains of the beautiful yet dangerous Canyon. After frantic search for a learned guide, they finally end up with Henry (Will Patton). Henry seems a little bit weird. But they have no other option but to take his guidance. Henry appears no doubt a knowledgeable guide. Their adventure trip moves on smoothly until a freak accident brings in disaster. The couple is left without their mules. Henry is also critically injured. They are left with no other option but to survive on their own. Thus they embark on an uncertain yet challenging mission of survival.

The Canyon is no doubt an adventure genre but one should not expect the punches of an action flick here. Director Richard Harrah has utilized the rugged nature of the Grand Canyon to the maximum effect. The audience will become aware about the hidden dangers of this wonderful natural monument. Richard has deftly handled the Canyon as the main player in this adventure film. The Canyon has been portrayed as a dangerous trap to test human endurance.

Although Bailey and Strahovski are newcomers in the movie industry, they should earn full credit for making their journey through the dangerous terrains of the Grand Canyon. Their performance has indeed hooked up the audience to the movie. Will Patton is another key figure in The Canyon. His rough behavior has perfectly matched with the rugged terrains of the Canyon.

Cinematography is another key aspect of the film. The scenes with natural backdrop, especially the night scenes have enhanced mysterious atmosphere of the unknown nature. The Canyon may not boast of a high voltage plot, but it has dealt with a realistic plot with aesthetic hands to enhance its value.
