The Box movie is based on Richard Matheson’s short story Button, Button. The director/writer, Richard Kelly needs to be accredited for bringing this wonderful movie before us. The movie asks the question to viewers that what is the thing that you may be interested in to sacrifice for million dollars. It is 1976. Life in suburbs is anti-climatic. Norman Lewis is a teacher at high school and Arthur, her husband is a NASA engineer who lives their life with the son until and unless Langella shows at doorstep with intriguing proposition—The Box. It is just needed to press the box’s button to be presented with one million dollars at an expense of a life of a human being. At The Box’s heart is the moral dilemma. Lewis family needs to take a tough decision. Arthur is demoted and Norman needs to go for a surgery and many such things. Earning one million dollar is not a matter of joke. It takes a long time to earn the amount. The money is right there on their table. But the problem is that this amount can only be achieved at an expense of an individual’s life. This means an unrelated person will definitely die and as a result of it all the matters in the family gets totally solved. The button is being pressed by Norma and then in no time she regrets of her own move. Human beings have a wish for immediate satisfaction which most of the times breed impulsive attitude. Unfortunately, we don not spend much time considering ramifications. This movie is a heightened and well projected demo of reality that challenges the characters of the movie as well as audiences with the questions of redemption and self-sacrifice. The story moves about quite inventively. There are many vague scenes in the start of the movie but everything gradually becomes linked up. Every scene of the movie has some information about the mysterious box. The suspense in the movie makes the audiences sit tight in their chair in front of the screen without having any intention to move anywhere. The Box renders a message to the audiences. It we cannot prioritize good things of human beings before our personal needs, then mankind’s demise is there right at the corner. This movie wasn’t bad. There are many who do not like watching sci-fi movies. This movie even provokes much needed thought in such people.
