Starring Timothy Hutton, Meg Ryan, Justin Long and Kristen Bell, Serious Moonlight is one of the most critically acclaimed movies of the year. The film has a unique plot and director Cheryl Hines tries to make it more appealing to the senses of the audience. Meg Ryan gave a usual flamboyant yet matured performance in the film. Hutton complemented her in a perfect manner. The roles of Kristen Bell and Justin Long are commendable as well.

The plot of the film Serious Moonlight is very different from the usual romantic comedies. Comedy in its usual pattern has a hero and a heroine who are either separated or plans to be separated or get separated due to some unavoidable situations and are reunited at the end of the movie. But this film has a completely different take on life. Love, sex, mind games and above all determination are regarded as the main theme of the film.

When a high- powered lawyer of Manhattan comes home to find that her husband has their bed strewn with rose petals she gets awfully excited. But soon she learns that her husband Ian is expecting some other woman and not her. Meg is called Louise in the film and her husband is Hutton. When Meg reaches home she finds that Ian has started writing a letter to her stating reason of leaving her for her own good. By this the audiences are expecting a blast between the couple. But the twist comes right her.

Meg is shown to be a very cool and professional individual. Instead of letting her husband do what he wishes to, Louise ties him with a duct tape and takes him captive. She declares Ian will not be released from this bondage until he commits of giving a second chance of reworking their marriage. The film takes a very fast pace from this point and the audiences have a wonderful time finding Meg Ryan and Timothy Hutton reworking their onscreen marriage which finally leads to the birth of a baby.

The supporting actors of the film are fabulous in their respective roles. They contribute greatly to the further complication of the plot. Kristen Bell plays Ian’s young girlfriend. She is young, beautiful and dumb. This character is just opposite to Louise in every way. The director brings out a stark difference between the two characters in order to intensify the plot.
