Santa Claus the Movie is one of the best-known fantasy movies related to the age-old myth of Santa and his reindeer. The film is the last major venture by Alexander and Ilya Salkind. Starring David Huddlestone, Judey Cornwell, Dudley Moore, John Lithgow, Burgess Meredith, and Anthony O Donnell, Santa Claus the Movie is regarded as one of the most popular Christmas movies of the era.
Directed by Jeannot Szwarc, the story of the film is written by David Newman and Leslie Newman. It is a fantasy film where the audiences are taken on a journey to explore the mysteries about Santa Claus’ origin and his activities. Children are the target audience but the vibrant presentation of the film makes it admirable to viewers of all age groups.

The plot of the film is very interesting. The movie begins with Santa and wife being saved by elves and taken to the North Pole. Then Santa comes to know from the “Ancient One” that he is chosen to distribute gifts amongst the children of the earth on every Christmas. Then we get to see the beautiful methods employed by the elves to manufacture toys.
The film then takes us to the 20th century from mid 50s. This sudden shift of time makes the audiences feel at ease with the sequence. We find how the elf Patch tries his luck in the city of New York and finally gets trapped by some unscrupulous men like B.Z and his associate Towzer.
Santa’s relationship with Joe and Cornelia will touch the hearts of all viewers. The connection between Santa and these two little kids are worth praising. Joe is the main character of the film. He is a deprived child who has never received any Christmas gift from Santa. There fore he doesn’t believe in his existence. Santa takes initiative to befriend him and eventually make him a part of his gift distribution program.
Thus we find how Santa makes his way to the heart of the little child and finally takes him to the North Pole to stay with him. There are some parts of the film where Santa fights the evil as well. Victory always comes to the good people, and that is what is proven in this film.
