Release: year 2009
Starring Michael Madsen and David Carradine, Road of No Return is a powerful action drama. The story of the movie is a simple one with very little twists and turns. It is all about a bunch of hit men who are hired by a group of shaded businessmen. The businessmen group is none other than a few officials of a government agency who wants to conceal their work from Washington in order to save them from impending trouble.
The movie is aptly named as it literally gets the two group stranded amidst lots of complications from where there is no return. Though the script is comparatively weak, but the actors give their best. The plot of the movie surrounds around the secret mission of the government officials who are out to get hold some of the fiercest drug dealers of the nation.
There are some contradictions, which at times confuse the audience. On one hand Carradine is heard saying that Washington have given them to implement “extreme measures” for arresting these drug traffickers whilst on the other hand he hires a group of hit men to cover up their deeds.
The hit men were hired by the government officials to cover them up. But slowly, these hit men became a threat to them as they started gathering more information about their employer’s background. A series of action sequences and at times nonsense events follow and consequently the officials want the hit men to be dead in order to ensure the safety of their group.
The subplots of the movie are very loosely woven into the main plot. One of the subplots includes the multiple homicide sequence where the hit men kill a bunch of people. Two girls were saved from their wrath and had nowhere to go. At one point of time, the “bad guys” of the movie were planning to sell them into sexual slavery. Strangely some of the bad guys started behaving like a father figure for them.
This abrupt change in the characters of the bad guys was a shock for the audience though it inserted a humane touch to the plot. One of the rescued girls was taken away and the other one remains with the group. The movie went on progressing at its normal pace. There were very little twists and turns.
Audiences were very much aware of what is going to happen next. The movie intended to be a political thriller but got a bit messed up at certain places. Carradine was as charming as ever with his excellent dialogue delivery. Every event of the film got stuck in some problem and sometimes the audiences really felt that indeed it was the Road of No Return.
