The plot of Joyeux Noël (2006) is incredible and brings hope to human beings even in the darkest hours. The film is set in the year 1914, when World War I is running. Four people are stuck on the war front and undergo an experience of a lifetime. The film delineates a true wartime story, which touches the heart of millions across the world. The devastation caused during the First World War has left France, Germany and Britain crushed from within.
The end of summer and the beginning of winter has slowed down the pace of war. Consequently the soldiers sat huddled inside the trenches and eagerly waited for the care packages of Christmas to be sent by their families. War has taken a backseat. The festive season and spirit have grasped the hearts of everyone. During such a situation the lives of four individuals, a Danish soprano, a Scottish priest, a German tenor and a French Lieutenant changes forever.
On the Christmas Eve of 1914, when the world is filled with terror and scare of war, the four individuals experience an incredible event. Instead of bullets, fire and bombs, the soldiers of the enemy camp extend their hands for friendship and wishing them “Joyeux Noël” which means Merry Christmas. The spirit of Christmas is rightly analyzed in the film. Christmas is a time when everyone seems to be happy.
There is no place for war and violence in Christmas. Loving your enemy is the best thing that can happen during Christmas. Christian Carion did his best with the direction of the film. Nothing seemed to be in excess in this film. The spirit of love, war and Christmas are retained in a realistic manner. Though some portions of the film are highly dramatized, but it is a real story and thus viewers accept everything.
When the enemies shake hands and exchange Christmas wishes across the borders, it makes the audience feel great. Christmas is celebrated in a unique manner in Joyeux Noël (2006). So, this Christmas don’t miss watching this amazing film with your friends and family.
