Based on J. K. Rowling’s third novel in the series of seven, is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, directed by Mexican film maker Alfonso Cuaron, starring Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter and Rupert Grint and Emma Watson playing Potter’s best friend, Ron and Hermione.
Summers have begun and Potter now 13, is back reluctantly spending his vacations with his dreary and dismal relatives behaving himself, keeping himself away from magic. But a vile visiting aunt provokes Harry into an act of magic, forbidden outside the magic world. Fearing retribution, Harry runs away and is picked up by the Knight Bus and is taken to the Leaky Cauldron pub, where he learns that the dangerous wizard who is believed to have led Lord Voldemort to Harry’s parents resulting in their death, has escaped and is now looking for Harry. Potter’s life at Hogwarts so proves to be extra fraught with Azkaban guards, strange new creatures, amazing adventure and the confrontation with Black. The movie portrays Harry’s teenage rebel nature in the opening scene when he inflates his already over-inflated aunt. Running away from home because of his mischief, picked by the puple triple decker Knight Bus will have the children swaying with laughter and delicious fear.
As the news of Black’s escape from Azkaban breaks, the mood of the movie darkens. The prisoner who spent 12 years in the prison of Azkaban is out now. He was the man behind the death of Harry Potter’s parents and now he is after Harry. The menace is heightened further when the deadly Dementors, the black spirit guards of Azkaban are out there hunting Black, sucking out the soul of anyne who stands in their path. The movie put Harry under many threats and pressure, including the ever-melodious Malloy boy and the mysteries of his past.
The adventure of Harry Potter is rugged and beautifully rendered in a celebration of creative vision and digital excellence. Complete Hogwarts is animated and framed as a picture on the wall, alive with the personages portrayed with the classrooms vibrating with weird, wizardly creatures.
Retaining the previous actors, Gary Oldman is cast to play the villainous role of Sirus Black, the wizard whose presence at Hogwarts that locks down in one of the shorter and gripping scenes. The film is given substance amidst fun with the underlying theme. Watch the Prisoner of Azkaban, that is considered to be a much darker film than the first two. Those who watched, claim that the third of the series is arguable more violent so far. The movie watch is kept muted and washed out. It brings out the emotions of betrayal and desolation in the stark beauty of the magic world.
