Good Arrows can be aptly termed as a family drama. Though the movie has a sport as its chief ingredient, the director was clever enough to bring out the under play of human emotions as well. Andy, Sheila and all their friends and acquaintances are so life like. The audiences could very well relate to the mental conditions of the lead actors. Andy is not portrayed as an individual. He is actually a symbol of common man who struggle for their existence just as Andy was doing.
Andy’s character is very similar to that of a sports person. Directors Helen Grace and Irvine welsh have given their best to make the film life like. The audiences will never feel the plot to be unrealistic and the characters to be concocted. Andy loved dart game passionately. He always used to give his best while playing the game. To his dismay one fine morning he finds out that he has forgotten the art of playing darts.
The revelations come as a shock to him and his family members. Andy has never even thought about forgetting dart in his worst nightmare. And one day he really finds out that he can’t continue with darts any more. Andy has a heart attack and after which all these happen. His wife Big Sheila also tries her best to recover him. All their attempts to make him regain his talent goes in vain.
The plot develops slowly, when suddenly we find a twist in the game. Jonny Owen as Andy is fabulous with his role. The director has done star cast after much thinking, Jonny suited the role perfectly. At times when Andy gets into bouts of depression, his facial expressions and tone of dialogue delivery is worth praising.
Katy Brand is also excellent in her role. She plays the wife to Andy. She is supportive, caring and tries her best to recover her husband. Other characters like Megan, Tray, Gaz and Mourner play their roles in an excellent manner. Like in a dance show, an item seems complete when the back up dancers complements the main dancer, similarly, in this movie, the supporting actors complement the main actors.
If you are expecting a good time at the theatres, Good Arrows is the best bet. The film is a perfect blend of joy, sorrow, love, hate and revenge. Its for the common man who can feel the situation of Andy and Sheila and support them through their journey of re-exploring themselves.
