Die Hard (1988) is a wonderful action film starring Alan Rickman, Bruce Willis, Reginald Vel Johnson and Bonnie Bedelia. The film is directed by John Mac Tiernan and the story is written by Steven E D Souza and Jeb Stuart, the Die Hard (1988) is the first film in the Die Hard series. The film is an adaptation of the 1979 novel called “ Nothing Lasts Forever” written by Roderick Thorp.
The plot of the movie is very interesting. Bruce Willis plays the character of detective John Mac Clane, who comes back to Los Angeles on the Christmas Eve to patch up with his estranged wife. The story begins on a happy note. The spirit of Christmas is spread everywhere. A limo driver named Argyle brings John to the Nakatomi Plaza building. Till this point, the film is quite lighthearted. Soon we can understand the twist in the tale.
The Christmas party of the company goes on inside the building. Thirteen terrorists forcibly barge inside and disrupt the party. The party people are taken hostages but somehow Mr. John Mac Clane flees from the situation. The film is full of action sequences. The viewers especially the admirers of action movies are extremely contented with action of the film.
Bruce Willis becomes a sort of action icon after the film. There are certain situations when Mac Clane is found hanging from the roof or facing a volley of bullets after which he comes out totally unscathed. The group of terrorists who take charge of Nakatomi building is the chief action group. Initially everyone think them to be terrorists. But soon it is revealed that they are a group of extremists who intend to steal $ 640 million dollars in the form of bearer bonds in Nakatomi vault.
Hans the leader of the terrorists finds out that Holly, who is one of the party hostages is the wife of Mac Clane. The action gets more furious, as they want to use Holly to get out of the situation. A series of violent action scenes ensues where finally the detective wins and the evil loses.
The subplot of the movie is the romance between John and Holly. AT the end of the film when we find MacClane and Holly going together happily after rejuvenating their relationship, the audiences feel good about it. Though it is an action movie but still it has some very emotional and romantic situations, which will touch your heart instantly.
