Astro Boy is a sci-fi movie, which has dealt with the story of a robot boy. The plot takes place in a future world. A scientist designs a robot to forget his grief over the death of his son. The robot super hero does his best to pacify the heart of a grieving father. But he fails to take the place of the scientist’s dead child. The scientist rejects him. Astro Boy deals with highly technological theme. The scientist father uses the DNA of his dead son to develop the robot boy. The concept of this film owes its origin to a popular Japanese comics series (manga). Humanoid robots have vivid references there. In Astro Boy, the robot is more acceptable to the western audience.
Parents will become proud once they take their kids to the screening of the movie. Many grown up persons may initially take it as a responsibility to accompany their children to the movie theaters during the screening of animated films. But once they start to watch Astro Boy, they will enjoy it wholeheartedly. Those who plan to take a nap during movie screening, will find it hard to ignore the lure of Astro Boy. Right from the start, the movie is captivating. As the plot moves on, audience will enjoy more and more pleasant surprises. The accidental death of Toby and his rebirth through the super robot will steal the viewers’ hearts.
Astro Boy is not only about the super feats of a robot, but its humane aspects. Its animation will no doubt attract any kid, but it has a solid story to tell. The story has appeal for all ages. The use of high quality animation has heightened the appeal of the film. The initial beginning of the film may seem tragic to the audience but ends on positive note.
This movie is a satire on present political system and power equations. President Stone has been portrayed as an embodiment of vice. He has shown how ‘absolute power corrupts absolutely’. He has done all the immoral activities to remain power unopposed. While talking about human effort behind Astro Boy, we must compliment to the direction and acting parts apart from animation quality. Director David Bowers has been successful in creating an animation film with rich jewels.
The voice artists have also done their best to heighten the emotions and excitement of the film. Nicholas Cage has lent his voice to vividly portray the emotions of Dr. Tenma. Here we must mention the voice of Freddie Highmore, without whom Astro Boy would not have got his charming tone.
